Tuesday January 9th, 2024: classes kick-off at Brooklyn Tango!

Ney Melo has excelled in his 15+ year tango career by teaching to large groups of dancers around the world but for his school “Brooklyn Tango” he has taken a different approach: working with a small group of people (8-10 max) on Tuesday nights on the parlor floor of a historic brownstone built in 1901. (Yes, the dancefloor is as old as tango itself!) Everyone learning from each other, he calls it “La Maestranza”.

When: The January 2024 course will meet on Tuesdays

Saturday April 13th, 2019: Ney Melo & Carla Marano performed to live music by The Aces of Rhythm

The Aces of Rhythm are a tango orchestra led by Argentine-born bassist and composer Pablo Aslan. Living in the United States since 1980, Pablo is recognized internationally as one of the leading figures in traditional and contemporary tango. His extensive discography includes Piazzolla in Brooklyn (a jazz-tango tribute to Astor Piazzolla) and Tango Grill. The latter earned him nominations for a Latin Grammy Award (“Best Tango Album”) and a Grammy Award (“Best Latin Jazz Album”).

Aslan has also performed and recorded with many world-class artists, including Yo-Yo Ma, Shakira, Lalo Schifrin, Denyce Graves, Osvaldo Golijov, Pablo Ziegler, the New World Symphony, and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

His orchestra “The Aces of Rhythm” play in the dynamic, rhythmic style of the legendary orchestra leader Juan D’Arienzo.

Carla Marano started dancing tango in 1994 at La Viruta, the historic milonga in Buenos Aires. She is considered part of the generation of dancers who transformed Argentine Tango through the investigation of movement technique, communication language and musical interpretation.​

Brooklyn Tango + Housing Works

On November 8th, Housing Works will host the 15th annual Fashion for Action benefit in NYC. Guests will shop over one million dollars’ worth of apparel, with all proceeds supporting the Housing Works mission to end AIDS and homelessness. The event also boasts an impressive online auction, which raises an additional $40K+ in critical revenue. Brooklyn Tango will be donating a private lesson for two to support the auction.
