Support Your Local University Tango Club! (West Coast)

These tango clubs/student organizations are the source of our new, young dancers. İ have seen the rejuvenation of the tango scene in New York and the tri-state area due to Robin Thomas's work with the clubs at Yale, Princeton, Columbia, and other nearby universities. These clubs expose young people to tango at an affordable price before they graduate and get caught up with hustle and bustle of their careers. İ encourage all tango dancers in the area to attend these festivals and support the growth of this dance, this art form, that we love so much!! If you are on the WEST COAST, I invite you to attend the Caltech Student Tango Festival on the 6,7,8 of April 2012.

To dance tango, you have to embrace. You have to embrace. A real embrace, with your arms, hands, chest, and heart. An embrace with feeling and emotion. I see many dancers embrace lightly, or off to one side. They make excuses about the asymmetry of the embrace, or how it hinders their movement, or how it's too heavy, etc. etc. The embrace is the "card that we are dealt" when it comes to tango. You work with it not against it. You find yourself in it, you lose yourself in it. It liberates you just as much as it "hinders" you. To truly embrace someone is similar to loving them, and just as you cannot give someone "half love" you cannot give someone "half embrace".582580_10150898602698021_191495343_n

January 7th - Tete and Osvaldo Zotto

On the morning of Thursday Jan 7, 2010, the tango world woke up to the news that 2 legendary dancers had passed away during the night: Tete and Osvaldo Zotto. They were two dancers with completely different styles. Every year we remember how much they inspired us. Here are their videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJDowJI0-7s
